The Role of restorative Justice featured in this article

Alessandro Tani, assistant principal at Marina High School, said they teamed up with Restorative Justice Partners, Inc. of Marina. He said the school staff was trained in the practices of restorative justice.
“Essentially what it allows us to do is to have a scripted, safe conversation
with students to get past some things that happened on campus,” Tani said.
Tani said it can be used for peer mediation. For example, suspending students may not extinguish the tension, and a fight could break out when the students return, which could result in multiple suspensions. He said using restorative justice in that example creates a space where students can coexist on campus.

Remembering Connie White
It is with a sad heart, and yet with hope in the resurrection, that I write to let you know that the Reverend Connie White passed away.  You may remember that Connie was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Mallory on May 31, 1989.  She served as the diocesan Prison Ministries Coordinator from 1988 to 1993 while also the associate rector at St. Edward’s, San Jose.  After that she served as associate rector at St. Jude’s, Cupertino for about two years.  She was then called to be the rector at St. George’s, Salinas from 1994 to 2001.  In her final call before retirement, Connie served as the Executive Director of Restorative Justice Partners in Monterey.   Connie, and her husband Marvin, attended Good Shepherd in Corral de Tierra after leaving St. George’s.  They spent the final years in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area. Her husband, Marvin, preceded her in death. Connie is survived by her children, Gordon, Charles and Becky.

Remembering Susie Franklin
The folks at Voices of Monterey Bay — and nonprofits throughout Monterey County — were saddened to learn of the passing of Susie Franklin. Franklin and the wonderful people at her Franklin Legacy Fund provided significant assistance to the VOMB Squad when we first came up with this loony idea to develop a nonprofit news operation.
The Carmel Valley resident had been involved in nonprofit work her entire career and, as she noted, she created the Franklin Legacy Fund with the hope "to inspire future generations to dream of a better world and give meaning to material wealth by making it happen."  
"She opened her arms wide to embrace and support as many people as she could," Seth wrote. "In the process she left an indelible, almost larger-than-life impression on so many." ~July 9 edition of Voices of Monterey Bay
